I play for the youth team and every match there is never a first team or reserve coach there watching the match and looking to bring the youth through into the 1st and reserve team. From what it seems the youth is nothing to do with the 1st/reserve team and they dont care about the youth.

dereham town fc is supposed to be an excellent football club with ambitions, the 1st team do not care about the other teams and are not giving the youth an opportunity they are just getting players in from all over norfolk and not bringing players through who are good enough for at least a chance in the first team

Fair points - but don't assume that because you do not see anyone from the First/Reserve teams they are not aware of what's going on and how individuals are playing. However, I will raise this issue with the managers of the First and Reserve teams to see how best we can remedy this situation.

1st team and reserve team manager's are well aware of the situation with the youth team but don't forget that the 1st team play tuesday's so that's time rob has away from his family,it should be the reserve team manager who watches because that's the time he will see who is good enough and who isn't.Rob taylor is doing a great job but there has to be a link from reserve's to u18's.

The reason i'm asking who Ben Jacob is, it's because i've heard he is a good player. Is he?

Ben is a goalkeeper who has played for U18's and is, I believe, still eligible for U16's. How good a player he is/will be is a matter for others to judge not me I'm afraid.

Under 18s had a massive boost with their 9-1 triumph over Wisbech in the cup. An excellent team performance with no one looking out of place

I am an ex DTFC player, have played over 300 1st team games and I am still a supporter of all teams from the club. First started in the under 12's and worked my way through the age groups, then the a-team, reserves and made my 1st team debut at the age of 16. I have been to watch the 18's on a few occasions now and to be truthful with the entire team, there is not one of you who is good enough to play in the Ridgeons Premier League at the moment. Youth team standard doesn't even come close to Ridgeons league. ;)There are players however, who show great ability, and with dedication and hard work will be in the running for a 1st team place when the time is right. Although I have no immediate links with the management or committee, I guarantee you that they are well aware of who's good and who's not, who shows potential and who doesn't. All I can say to the lads who feel hard done by not getting a look in is, keep working at your game, you are still very young and if you are worthy of a 1st team place, believe me, you will get picked. Time is on your side.

interesting that you got your first team debut at 16. these lads are not as fortunate.
no doubt the oppotunity made you learn very quickly and as you made 300 appearances, the faith the club showed in you at the time obviously paid off for you and them.
sometimes player's don't shine at u18 level but do have the necessary atributes to step up to reserves and first team level pretty quickly if they're given an oppotunity.
at the moment the oppotunities are very few and far between.

You sound like you feel the lads are good enough but just aren't being given the chance? Can you tell me exactly where you think the problem is and who is/are the culprits? I am all for local boys being given the chance to come through. When I started in the 1st team, I think at least 90% of the players were local, if not more. I was answering the question of 'who is good enough for the 1st team from the youth team?'

i would say there are definately 5 or 6 players in the under18s who have the ability to play ridgeons football, and possibly 1 or 2 capable of playing ridgeons this season. if only they were given the chance

How many players currently in the first team have come through the youth system? Graham Barrett is one and that was a long time ago! Does the manager go and watch youth games? Luke Fell (18) was once a Dereham youth player and now plays for Kings Lynn Res. If i was the 1st team manager i'd keep the yougsters interested.

Maybe questions should be asked about the youth teams managers. Maybe they are not promoting there boys enough. You need to have regular contact between both parties, senior managers and junior managers.
