The Royal BC Museum says the first exhibition at its new satellite gallery in Vancouver will include over 30 paintings by Emily Carr and about 100 pickled animals. Venice Paintings The summer show, a disparate mix of installations, runs from June 14 to Sept. 3 at the Wing Sang heritage building in Chinatown. Boats Paintings Some of the Carr material ¡ª which includes letters, diaries and photos ¡ª is being displayed publicly for the first time, says the Victoria-based museum. Cheap Oil Paintings There will also be a "magic lantern" exhibit of historical images, as well as specimens from the museum's preserved animal collection dating from the 1800s. People Paintings The creatures, "the colour of pale peanut butter, pickled in jars then artfully uplit in a darkened room, have a strangely beautiful effect," the museum says. Animal Paintings
